drawing-a-day 01112012

In my last drawing I made a new tool that created a whole different mark. I embraced that new tool and made this drawing. Experimenting with a few more marks and keeping the palette limited.

When I make analog drawings I break my pastel, graphite or charcoal to make new marks. I twist the piece in my hand and use the edges and shape to make new marks. This is a wonderful experience but the tool deteriorates as the medium is consumed by the paper. I can only make some marks by buying new medium or sometimes by reshaping it. With my digital drawings I can create a tool or mark and continue to get the same mark until I change my preferences and make a new tool.

This project has stimulated a number of ideas that I can transfer to my drawing in the studio.
